Fasted? Now expect the power…

Fasting is not an end in itself, nor just a means to an end. In itself, it enriches the spirit, but through it, it impacts your world by the power of God released in a new measure through you…

In Luke 4 we read that “Jesus, being full of the Holy Spirit, was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, and He ate nothing…”

It seems that Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to fast. Then after His fasting and overcoming temptation, the Scripture records that

Jesus returned in the power of the Spiritv14

Note: He went in “led by the Spirit”, and came out “in the power of the Spirit.”

What’s the difference between “being filled with the Spirit” and “being in the power of the Spirit?” I’m not 100% sure, but whatever it means, Jesus had this power after fasting and resisting satan’s temptation (including satan’s offer of “bread” to meet His hunger need).  Afterwards, He went into the synagogue “as His custom was” (i.e. He did what He had always done – everything seemed the same as before), but that day everything would change! Having read from the book of Isaiah, He declares that “today this word is fulfilled” and that “the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon Me.” From here Jesus goes on in this power to “preach the gospel (Good News) of the Kingdom of God.” The power was manifest!

Letting go of 2017… to enetr 2018 well

“The way you leave is the way you will enter.”

As you make goals and dream dreams and make goals for 2018, consider what it is that you have to purposefully leave behind from 2017. The apostle Paul says it like this in Philippians 3v13-4

Brothers and sisters, I myself don’t think I’ve reached it, but I do this one thing: I forget about the things behind me and reach out for the things ahead of me.14 The goal I pursue is the prize of God’s upward call in Christ Jesus.

I pray that you will have the grace to forgive and forget what lies behind, and the faith to reach out to all of Gods best for you in 2018!

A life lesson from my mother about facing the mountains in your life…

Are you facing some “mountains” in your life? I was in South Africa earlier this week for some speaking appointments and envisioning for Europe, and I took a couple of days to connect with my dear mom. I asked her to share a “life lesson” with us, and I really think that this 3-minute video will be a blessing to you. The video had 2,000 views in 24 hrs on my Facebook page, and over 50 comments! (I think she should start a Youtube channel!)

Watch it below…

About your disappointments…

It’s so easy to let your past ruin your present, and your future.

Disappointments are part of this life, but please don’t let your disappointments of the past keep you from your appointments in the future.

Philippians 3:13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead

No matter what you have gone through, or go through, I pray that you will always know the one thing that will never disappoint: GOD’S HOPE

This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. – Romans 5:5

In Dublin and Belfast…

Ali and I were in Dublin this past weekend to celebrate the 15th year of our church plant there, and we were super encouraged! Then off to Belfast to visit with our latest European church plant leaders. A weekend packed with teaching, rich connecting, fantastic views and weather, and crowned with some powerful inspiration from St Patrick. I’ll let these pics tell the story…

And finally, here’s some food for thought about “catching something good this week…”  here.
