In less than a week’s time we will know who the UK’s next Prime Minister will be for the next 5 years. Does it matter that I vote on the 7th, or will it make no difference at all? Is God even interested in politics? Well yes, He certainly is, because politics is about people, and God is definitely into people. This Sunday in our Hammersmith congregation we start a 3 week series called “God, Government & You” – its not about influencing you on who to vote for, but rather on who and what to live for. You are in this city and nation in this generation for a greater purpose than you could imagine.
Besides voting (even if you are not sure who for, DO IT) here are two more ways to engage:
INFORM YOURSELF: Get some fresh perspective via this article by J John on “Why should Christians be involved in politics?” here.
- Also watch the SHOW UP video & campaign here
- Want to know what the different Political Parties are about – see here for a Christian perspective
PRAY: Join 1000’s of believers for an hour of “Flash-mob” prayer on Wed 6th from 7pm outside the Houses of Parliament. I went 5 years ago on the eve of the previous election and it was awesome – see more on 7:14 prayer here.
2 Chronicles 7:14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
1 Timothy 2v1-6 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Saviour, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. 5 For, there is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. 6 He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.
SHOW UP… and make a difference
