Join UP, not DOWN today…

I’m getting ready for our next FOLLOW ONE, which is  the first part of The Follow Course starting this Monday (Sorry, but this course is now fully booked – the next one will be run over the 4 Thursdays in August – sign up for that course here)

In this first part we dig into the amazing truth of who God really is, and how we can have a confident secure and life-giving relationship with Him. This is SO important, because who you believe someone to be, and what you know of them, will completely determine how you relate to them.

In my preparation I came across this revelation from the story of the prodigal son, in verse 15 of Luke 15, which describes what happens to him once he had left his fathers house:

“Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed pigs.”

In life we make “Join UP” or join DOWN” choices. Our choices of who and what we join ourselves to take us either UP or Screen Shot 2015-04-18 at 11.37.28
DOWN.They will either bless your life, or pull you down into the pigsty places of life. The decisions and choices we make (“He went”) have consequences: Choose wisely where you go, and who you join yourself to. They will determine your relationships/belonging (“He joined himself”), and your significance / purpose (“he sent him”).

The original word for “join” here is kolláō, which literally means “to glue together” (To bond, cleave, adhere to).  Don’t take joining choices lightly, because who and what you join yourself to will determine your belonging and your significance; your relationships and your purpose. You cant separate your purpose from the people you walk with, as they are totally intertwined.

So my friends, choose well today. Choose what is true, and choose Him who is Truth. Jesus said that “I am the way the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6) Read another way, Jesus is saying that “anyone can come to the Father through Me!” – that includes you, and when you come, you find relationship with God, and you find a purpose for living the life God created you for!

“Join” yourself to Jesus today, and find life in all its fullness!
