After some great input on “Emotionally Heathy leadership” in week one or our sabbatical, Ali & I headed out to Greece (New nation on our list!) for a week of getaway. Of course I couldn’t resist the opportunity to reflect on some truth about finding true rest, especially in the light of The Message Translation of Psalm 84v10 which mentions “Greek Island Beaches” – see my 2 minute video below:
One day spent in your house, this beautiful place of worship,
beats thousands spent on Greek island beaches.
I’d rather scrub floors in the house of my God
than be honoured as a guest in the palace of sin.
All sunshine and sovereign is God,
generous in gifts and glory.
He doesn’t scrimp with his traveling companions.
It’s smooth sailing all the way with God-of-the-Angel-Armies.
BTW, if you missed my recent message on “Entering God’s Rest” – Listen or download it here.
I pray that you personally will respond to Jesus’ great invitation to find true rest in Him:
‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’ – Matthew 11:28-30
And again from The Message Translation: “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
