How to enter God’s rest… join me on a true Sabbatical!

If you’re from our London church,  you’ve hopefully heard Screen Shot 2014-06-05 at 20.58.42by now that Ali & I have this week started a summer Sabbatical – our first one since starting the church nearly 21 years ago in 1993!  We’ll be back at the beginning of September…

We are thankful to the staff team and leaders who will be stepping up while we are away, and go into this season with full confidence that Jesus will continue to build His church. Dan & Amanda Smart will be leading in Hammersmith during our absence.

If your reaction to someone going on holiday or sabbatical is any of the following: “I wish I could do that”, or “You deserve that”, or “you must need that” or “I need one of those” – then I would highly recommend that you listen to my last Sunday’s message titled “ENTERING GOD”S REST” online here.  I genuinely believe that the truth in this message can lead to significant positive change in your life.

In this message I help you to understand the great invitation to “true rest” that Jesus calls you to in Matthew 11:28-30 (see below).

  • True rest starts when you recognise, receive and rejoice in the finished work of God in Christ
  • Our New Covenant Sabbath is not one day in seven, but everyday in Jesus
  • Rest doesn’t come from doing nothing, but from doing the right thing at the right time in the right strength and the right rhythm.

‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’

And in The Message Translation: I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.

Friend, with Jesus I invite you to “Enter God’s True Rest”…
