“Knowing God” – message recap

Its not what you know, but WHO you know that makes the difference in life. Do you know God? Or just know “about” God?

God knows you, and wants you to know Him. Not just superficially, but intimately. In the book of Daniel 11v32 we read that “…BUT those who KNOW their God will be strong, and do great exploits for God.”

In this message I urge you to live to know God, and remind us that it is out of our relationship with God that we receive strength to stand and do great exploits. I close by answering your question: How can I know God more? The two answers I propose is:

  1. Seek Him in the Scriptures. He always hides there, and reveals Himself to those who seek Him. “Systematic reading results in specific leading,” and “meditation results in revelation.” Try it this week. Begin reading through one of the gospels, maybe Luke. A paragraph or so each day. Write down a key verse or thought/revelation, and “chew/meditate on it during the day. Then apply the truth to your living, and see what God does!
  2. By the Holy Spirit. We need the fulness of the Holy Spirit. All His presence, His gifts, His comfort, His guidance, His power. Ask God the Holy Spirit to reveal God the Son and God the Father to you. He loves to show them off!

Finally, this message ended with communion, because it is also in the revelation of the breaking of bread that our eyes are opened, that we may know Him more…

Luke 24:30-31  30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight. 32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”

KNOW GOD. BE STRONG. DO GREAT THINGS FOR GOD!

Jeremiah 9:23-24  This is what the Lord says: “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. 24 But those who wish to boast  should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth and that I delight in these things. I, the Lord, have spoken!
