The ACTivate adventure: Chapter 17, June 1st

Today’s ACTivate adventure is from ACTS chapter 17 – have you read it yet?   Here are my ACTivating thoughts for you today…

Two good habits of Spiritual Living:

A Regular fellowship habit:

Acts 17 begins by recording that Paul went to the synagogue “as his custom was,” and then that “he went 3 times” … PAUSE: How’s your “going to church” custom doing?  What would the records show your priorities to be? On average, how many out of 3?  Are you a church shopper, going wherever there’s something for you to consume, or are you committed somewhere where you are an active part of the local body?  Remember, Spiritual Living includes regularly fellowshipping with other believers, and serving His body:

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. – Hebrews 10v24-25

A “search the Scriptures” habit:

v11 of this chapter tells of the Bereans, who when they met together were as earner and enthusiastic as any good charismatic church crowd. But then they did something that every believer must learn to do: They went home and studied the scriptures daily for themselves to confirm that what they were hearing was in fact true, and they grounded their faith not in the preacher, but in the Scriptures:

Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. 12Therefore many of them believed... – Acts 17:11

Becoming a student of the Scriptures is essential for every believer who wants to do something significant with their lives. You cannot grow on other people’s soundbites and tweets and blogs and podcasts. You have to learn to “self-feed” – personally getting stuck into the Bible for study.

Now, if you didn’t read this chapter in your Bible before you read this blog, I’d recommend that you click here and read this incredible chapter as Paul engages first with a group strongly opposed to his message, and then with a city completely ignorant of his message.   Develop good habits of fellowship and personal Scripture study to power up your Spiritual Living, and stay stirred up and equipped to make a radical difference for Jesus in your world…
