The ACTivate adventure: Chapter 9, Tuesday 24 May

Read ACTS Ch 9… then here’s my “Spiritual Living” thought for today:

 Yes LORD!

This chapter records one of the most significant events in the New Testament church history: The conversion of Saul, who would go on to become the mighty apostle Paul, and writer of large chunks of the New Testament.

On the same day as when Paul said “yes” to Jesus as Lord, the Holy Spirit was also looking for someone else to say “yes” to helping Saul grow as a disciple of Christ.  The Holy Spirit was looking for someone to go to him and pray for his eyes to be opened, to teach and lead him into the baptism in water and the Holy Spirit, and to connect him with other believers in the church.

So who will Spirit choose for this most important task? Well, “In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!”   “Yes, Lord,” he answered” (v10)

The Holy Spirit is looking for disciples who are willing to say “yes Lord” to make disciples. To make disciples takes every once of “spiritual living.”  Consider how Ananias needed to be able to discern the Spirits leading in the vision; how he needed great courage; how he needed the power of the Spirit to baptise Saul in the Holy Spirit. We never hear of Ananias again after this, but one thing is for sure: He left his mark on history by saying “yes Lord” to call to make a disciple.

Is your “spiritual living” resulting in and “making disciples”?  Who is the Saul in your world who you can help to grow as a disciple of Christ? You can “make disciples” by:

  • Sharing the Good News of Jesus and leading people to receive Christ as Saviour & Lord.
  • Do the “Purple Book” with someone to help them lay strong Biblical foundations in their lives. (See here)
  • Teach someone about water baptism
  • Pray for someone to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • Invite someone to join you at Connect Group to experience fellowship with believers.
  • Encourage and help someone to use their gifts for serving Christ’s cause.
