The ACTivate adventure: Chapter 2, May 17th

We continue on Day 2 of our ACTivate adventure…

Read Acts Chapter 2 here, and see here for more explanation if you are just joining us…

Spiritual living starts with “sitting”…

This chapter 2 ends with an amazing picture of church life – so real and supportive and powerful and full of joy and attractive that every day people were saved through the Good News of Jesus, and added to this church! Wow, what if our church could be like that?!

We often long for the same results that we see in other people’s lives, but we so easily forget what it took for them to get those results. I’m sure you can easily find many application truths in this chapter, and if we listed them all we’d have quite a list of “things we must do to get the results of the Acts church.” And we’d probably be discouraged and tired before we even started!

What strikes me is how the scripture specifically records what the disciples were doing when they “were all together in one place” at the beginning of this chapter. It simply say’s that “they were sitting.” Wow.

Spiritual living starts with sitting.

Spiritual living starts with coming to a stop from all our own activities in our own strength, and according to our own plans, instead of taking time in Gods presence to catch His heart and hear His voice. It’s so opposite to our natural inclinations to get out and do do do…

Today as you are stirred with visions of great outpourings of the Spirit and revival with 1,000’s being saved, baptized and added to our churches, take a lesson in Spiritual Living from these early disciples, and “be still, and know that He is God.” (Psalm 46v10), or as The Message Translation puts it: “Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.”

How’s your sitting going lately? Is there any “sitting” in your daily routine? Try it, and you too could see more of the results of ACTS!
