At the start of Matthew 24 we see that Jesus wasn’t very impressed with His disciples when they were overly impressed with the “magnificent buildings” (Saying: “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”) … so He reminds them that it’s all going to be destroyed, so much so that not even one stone will be left unturned, so don’t become too impressed or too attached.
Then, when He is up on the mountain, and the disciples come to Him privately with their questions trying to understand the “when” & “what must happen”, He told them of the “birth pains” including “earthquakes & rumours…” and reminds them that there is an “end” to all this that we are so easily impressed with in this world, and He reminds them to stay “ready”.
We all have “eternity in our hearts” – some suppress these questions about life beyond death and never “go up the mountain” to seek the answers their spirits crave. They just stay in the valleys of this life and “eat, drink & be merry” while they serve the idols of materialism and love the gods of this world. In all this Jesus warns and reminds us that “THE END WILL COME” – and He invites you up the mountain with Him today to talk privately with you about your living, and the greater LIFE and plans He has for you.
Don’t be impressed and deceived with whats temporary today, no matter how impressive it looks, but set your living on things that will last into eternity – now thats a secure investment!
For those who do believe, Jesus encourages you today saying: …he who endures to the end will be saved. (v13)
“Endures” [Greek: Hoop-ahm –en-oh] here means: “To hold ones ground in conflict, bear up against adversity, hold out under stress, stand firm, persevere under pressure, wait calmly and courageously. It is not passive resignation to fate and mere patience, but the active, energetic resistance to defeat that allows calm and brave endurance.”
Jesus in Matthew 24:44 – So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.
